So, I have only been teaching for a year, so far – and not even in America, my home country. But, I know that there are times when being a teacher can be discouraging. It seems at times that you are everyone’s enemy – the parents’, the students’, the administration’s . . . and yet all your motivation and hopes and desires are for your students’ success, their well-being, their best. Sometimes, it seems twisted. Sometimes, people don’t realize how much of the future we hold in our hands, and you’d think that if they did, they would value teachers a bit more.
Well, here’s an article from the New York Times to brighten your day. There are people out there who realize the influence teachers can have on people’s lives. So . . . for the students out there like Charles Blow, keep smiling, keep teaching, keep going . . . don’t get down!
And all of that was because of Mrs. Thomas, the firecracker of a teacher who first saw me and smiled with the smile that warmed me on the inside.
