Story of the Week

We are studying past tense this week. You know, what did you do last weekend? kind of stuff. Filling out graphs with -ed, -d, irregular verbs. Yep, that’s the topic. The objective is that the students would be able to speak and write about past events. Basic.

So, on Monday, I ask, “What did you do this weekend? Anything exciting?”

Student: “Teacher, on Friday I drank raki.” (You’re missing the intonation here, it was a little guilty, mostly funny, definitely implying that Saturday was a little rough. Raki is a very famous Turkish alcohol.)

Me: “Oh, okay. Are you okay today?” (We were all laughing, it was funny.) “So you drank raki. What kind of verb is this, drank? Is it regular or irregular?”

Student’s friend: “Teacher, I think it is probably regular.”

Student: “Yes, it is.”

Fail.
