If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that sometimes it gets quiet over here because I’m working like crazy over at EDGE Institute, the NGO my husband and I have started. Well, today’s a big day over there! We launched our podcast, LINK’d by EDGE this morning! I’d love for you all to check it out and join the conversation! It’s a podcast on Global Education and Education in Conflict. Anyways, to go along with Episode 001, we also published a blog post this morning, and I’m giving you a snippet of it here. If you’ve enjoyed much on this blog, I think you’ll really like what you see at EDGE. What does it mean to you? What word pops to mind first? My nephew, in first grade, immediately thought: craziness. And what else would you expect a first grader to say?!

Some of you may have thought: a future, achieving a goal, possibilities, a means to an end . . . 

Does the word safety ever cross your mind?

Schools = Safety

Look across the world at the 230 million children living in conflict areas, areas that are ridden with war, internal conflict, or natural disaster. Picture a child, sitting on a stoop in a neglected corner of the city, with a basket full of candies that he is trying to sell so his family can eat dinner tonight.
